Less than 500 meters in altitude, Gaoting Mountain scenic area has the topography of low hills, whose vegetation is mainly the second growth of evergreen broad leaf forest. With fairly well-preserved forest, the area boasts rich varieties of climatic plants resources. The arbors, shrubs and grass here are well integrated in natural and various clusters with clear layers, forming an organic whole, providing high value for sightseeing and leisure. In the area, there are 367 species of plants from 270 categories in about 70 families. Among them, arbor trees take up 76, most of which are broad-leafed. They include camphor, paulownia, metasequoia, liquid amber and so on. Gingko trees and matesequoia trees are the national first-grade protected species and camphor trees and tulip trees belong to the national second-grade protected species. The oldest camphor tree here is 600 years old. There are 73 species of shrubs, including nandina, glochidion and oleander and etc. There are 173 species of herbaceous plants, of which wild buckweed is the national second-grade protected species. 41 species of vine are growing here, majorly including honeysuckle, morning glory and ciliate desert-grass. Wild soybean belongs to the national second-grade protected species. 4 species of bamboo are available here. They are giant bamboo, Lei bamboo, fishscale bamboo and early bamboo (Phyllostachys violascens). The Peach Orchard of the scenic area is another section of rich vegetation. It is well-known for peach blossoms. Since its participation in the “double best” campaign of Hangzhou urban parks in 2017, the orchard area has experienced successive promotions，resulting in a collection of more than a decade of peach species and other perennial flowers like Britton's Wild Petunia, verbena, Tulbaghia violacea and various roses. When they are blooming in spring, visitors vie one another for the first view of them.
